A Birthday

A Birthday

Welcome back to the island, I wanted to share this picture of the beautiful grasslands above South Beach in the soft fall light.

It is such a perfect spot for a quiet afternoon walk.

As I'm sure you know by now, Quentin is a favorite of mine, and this month he is celebrating his birthday!
The exact date that he chose to emerge from his egg is unknown, so he enjoys the opportunity of celebrating the whole month rather than a single day (just to be on the safe side). This year I have a wonderful surprise in store and I'm going to let him tell you all about it...

Here is a little oil sketch of Quentin and Robin sitting on my bed, enjoying a nice treat and a good chat. I think this is their favorite place to spend a long afternoon together.

Since my last newsletter, I have been working at the store and haven't had time to sit and paint at my easel, but I have been working on a new project that I would like to share. I'm making a new miniature scene, this time a little bakery/bookstore, and between meeting new customers and friends, I have been modeling little creatures out of clay for it.
Yesterday I took some of them outside and popped them on a mossy log so that you can see how they turned out. I can't wait to see them in the finished scene! If you have the time maybe you would enjoy making some for yourself, it's really relaxing, and you never know who you will make!

Hello again!
September is my birthday month, and this one is the best yet!
Yesterday evening we had a little party in the kitchen and when it came time to open my present Jayne handed me an envelope and I still can't quite believe what was inside...Two tickets to England for myself and Robin!
We have been packing all morning, I only need my pen, some ink, and plenty of paper, but it seems that Robin has quite the collection of items that he deems essential. They include but are not limited to:
Storybooks
Blankets
A pepper shaker filled with bird seed
A green and black tweed cape
His pencil case
A map of the United Kingdom
An atlas of geographical wonders
Books on the weather
His favorite chair
I'm not sure how it's all going to fit but wish us luck.

And before I go, here is a closeup sketch Jayne made of us sharing the last slice of birthday cake earlier this afternoon. We'll to get to bed early as we leave first thing...by boat heaven help us, so hope for calm seas!

Wish us well, and until next time keep your beak up!

~ Quentin

I hope you enjoyed this letter from the island. Next time we will be writing from you from England! It's all very exciting and I cant wait to share our adventures with you.

Enjoy every day and take care.

Your friend

Jayne
